Prior to founding Brackett Restaurant Group and Gary Brackett’s Impact Foundation, Gary Lawrence Brackett was a linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. He was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2003 after having been a walk-on to the Rutgers University football team. While Brackett started as an undrafted free agent with the Colts and a walk-on at Rutgers, by the time he’d left the teams he had served as Defensive Captain for both and won the team’s defensive MVP for the latter.
Born and raised in Glassboro, New Jersey, Brackett is a small-town boy at heart. During his time with the Colts, Brackett was a backup his first two years until he became a starter in 2005. That year, he had 127 tackles, 3 interceptions and 1 sack. In 2006, he was named defensive captain of the Colts and had 120 tackles. He started for the Colts in their Super Bowl XLI win over the Chicago Bears.
Having lost his mother, father, and brother during a 16-month period beginning in 2003, Brackett felt compelled to launch Gary Brackett’s Impact Foundation, a non-profit organization aimed at empowering under-served and/or chronically ill youth. After retiring from the Colts in 2009, Brackett went on to serve as a sports commentator, which he still does in addition to owning and serving as President/CEO of Brackett Restaurant Group which owns and manages 9 Stacked Pickle casual dining brands as well as a full-service catering company. Gary's latest venture is a joint project named CharBlue. Brackett partnered with long time Indianapolis restaurateur, Jeremiah Hamman. Together they have launched a locally focused restaurant specializing in farm-to-table organically grown products and yes, prime beef.
Gary is excited for his newest venture and the opportunity to serve long time guests and fans at CharBlue.
Brackett married his beautiful wife Ragan, a physician, in 2010. They live in Carnel Indiana with their three wonderful children – Gabrielle, Gary Jr., and Georgia Reese.
CharBlue's cofounder, Jeremiah Hamman is a long-time Indianapolis restaurateur. Having brought several concepts to Indianapolis, Hamman is excited to launch CharBlue. The vision was a collaborative effort between Hamman, his wife Nessa and longtime Indianapolis Colt, Gary Brackett. They wanted to give Indy a steakhouse unlike any other in town. Chef driven, locally decorated and uniquely Indy, come see for yourself at CharBlue.
